P2P Prime Topic at Washington Transportation Meeting
The Transportation Research Board last week held its 85th annual meeting in Washington, DC. More than 10,000 federal and state transportation industry officials, academics and industry personnel attended the meeting, including NRMCA’s Karthik Obla, who presented P2P (prescriptive-to-performance) in one of the technical sessions. There was also a session where concrete paving contractors discussed performance-based specifications for concrete pavements. A representative presented FHWA’s continued progress toward performance specifications which complement NRMCA’s P2P efforts.
Technical sessions addressed the use of epoxy-coated rebars in concrete, nanotechnology in concrete, use of alternative deicers such as potassium acetate and its effect on concrete durability such as ASR.
Obla said he plans to develop a NCHRP research problem statement on the use of crushed returned concrete as aggregates for new concrete.
