Whether pervious concrete for the environment, commercial parking areas where concrete is cool, attractive, durable and safe, or industrial parking areas where concrete carries the load, concrete is the material of choice for parking areas. Durability, long life, low maintenance and improved environmental qualities are just a few of the many reasons to Count On Concrete for parking areas of all kinds.

Cooler, Better Looking and More Economical!

Commercial Sites

Conventional concrete parking areas for commercial and retail establishments are fast finding a home in the Pacific Southwest Region. Concrete parking lots are cooler, brighter, more durable and better looking – and with new placement technology more economical than ever before.

This concrete parking lot at Haidlen Ford in Oakdale, CA is 30-40 degres cooler on hot summer days than the Chevy dealership next door that has an asphalt lot. And Haidlen achieved this maintenance-free, long-lived parking lot at only a 15% premium over asphalt.

New technologies such as structural fiber reinforcement and 3D laser screed technology are making concrete more and more competitive with asphalt on a first cost basis. And when you factor in life cycle costs, the savings to the owner are huge. Software developed by the NRMCA and available through PSCA members helps to compare the structural and economic factors associated with both concrete and asphalt designs.

Three dimensional laser screeds make short work of concrete placement – quickly and accurately!

One of the big savings with concrete, in addition to no seal-coating and periodic overlays, is the reduction in lighting. Concrete is much more reflective than asphalt, so lighting can be reduced, and a brighter, safer parking area can be achieved.

This mall has the same amount of lighting – the only difference is that one side is concrete and the other side is asphalt.      Seeing is believing!

And if looks are important, concrete can really shine – colored, stamped decorative concrete can be a dazzling addition to any retail, office or commercial installation.

Colored and stamped concrete parking lots are beautiful and durable.

Industrial Concrete Parking Areas

Concrete carries the load and beats the heat.

Industrial Sites

Now when it comes to heavyweight applications, there is no question that concrete carries the load. For industrial applications – ports, truck yards, warehouses and distribution centers, etc., nothing beats concrete for providing years of maintenance-free use.

When asphalt parking areas fail due to age, water instrusion and just plain fatigue from repeated heavy loading, replacement with concrete is the sensible alternative.

In addition to conventional concrete, soil cement and roller-compacted concrete are great alternatives for industrial parking areas. Contact your local PSCA member to explore these economical alternatives.
